Ukraine and Belgium set defence priorities through the end of 2026

Ukraine's Minister of Defence, Evgeniy Khmara, held talks with Belgium's Minister of Defence, Theo Francken.

The two sides set defence priorities through the end of 2026 and discussed scaling up support for Ukraine next year.

Support for the Defence Forces

Evgeniy Khmara thanked Belgium for providing €1 billion in defence assistance this year.

According to him, Ukraine is already turning this support into effective capabilities for the Defence Forces on the battlefield.

Drones and industrial cooperation

During the talks, the two sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation on drones and joint industrial projects.

Ukraine supports all mechanisms that strengthen Ukraine’s defence and its allies' capabilities.

F-16s and countering jet-powered UAVs

Evgeniy Khmara also noted Belgium’s role in repairing F-16 aircraft and supplying spare parts for them.

Ukraine also expects the delivery of additional munitions for F-16s, including for countering jet-powered drones.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is grateful to Belgium for its support and readiness to develop a mutually beneficial defence partnership.
