Ukraine discusses strengthening support for the Defence Forces with advisers from France, Germany and the United Kingdom
Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Evgeniy Khmara, met with the national security advisers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom — Emmanuel Bonne, Günter Sautter, and Jonathan Powell.
The battlefield situation and Ukraine’s needs
Together with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine briefed the partners on the battlefield situation, particularly in eastern Ukraine, as well as the strategy and actions of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
Ukraine is counting on stronger support from its partners to reduce russia’s ability to wage war and gain an advantage on the battlefield.
He emphasised that Ukraine is preparing for the possibility that russia may announce a new wave of mobilisation. The meeting also addressed potential challenges and the need for capabilities and assets that would help reduce russia’s capacity to wage war.
Deep strike operations and sanctions pressure
Particular attention was given to deep strike operations as one of the tools that can help deprive russia of the ability to finance its aggression against Ukraine.
At the same time, comprehensive efforts in coordination with partners to increase sanctions pressure on russia remain critically important.
Protecting the skies and the FREYJA project
The Ukrainian side also briefed the partners on what Ukraine needs to protect its skies.
A particular focus was on accelerating the implementation of the FREYJA Anti-Ballistic Missile Program. The Ukrainian side provided partners with a specific list of requirements to complete the program.
Cooperation in the cognitive domain
The meeting also addressed the potential for cooperation in the cognitive domain.
Evgeniy Khmara emphasised that Ukraine is ready to develop mutually beneficial projects that will strengthen Ukraine and its partners.
