Mykhailo Fedorov and Boris Pistorius discussed enhanced air defence and the development of unmanned systems

Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov held a conversation with German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius.
The Minister of Defence of Ukraine noted that Germany is among Ukraine’s key partners in the security and defence domain.
“Today, Germany’s contribution represents over 30% of the total volume of security assistance announced for Ukraine in 2026. I thanked Germany for the delivery of two Patriot systems last autumn and for its willingness to allocate additional resources towards unmanned systems for our service members,” Mykhailo Fedorov stated.

He also briefed his counterpart on today’s large-scale russian attack. Mykhailo Fedorov stressed that strengthening Ukraine’s air defence remains a priority, and that Germany’s contribution is crucial.
“The IRIS-T and Patriot air defence systems delivered to Ukraine, together with participation in the PURL project for the procurement of U.S.-made weaponry, contributed to countering russian attacks today. We also discussed the continued development of Ukraine’s Patriot programme and the projects required to secure a long-term supply of missiles for Patriot systems,” the Minister of Defence of Ukraine added.
The discussions also covered the further development of the IRIS-T missile as a central component of Ukraine’s air defence capabilities, along with increased supply.
The parties also discussed Germany’s involvement in an innovative project focused on the development of drone assault units.
“We already have successful front-line operations and are prepared to share this practical experience with the German military. Another important track of cooperation concerns extended-range artillery ammunition. I underscored the importance of delivering long-range artillery ammunition to ensure the effective employment of artillery in a drone-dominated kill zone. One of Ukraine’s key priorities is the continuation of Germany’s contributions to the ‘Czech Initiative’,” Mykhailo Fedorov concluded.
