1,000 service members have started learning the fundamentals of defense procurement thanks to the Army+ course

Last month, the Ministry of Defence launched a new course on defense procurement in the Army+ app’s training platform. Since then, 1,000 service members have begun the course.

The course is beneficial for military personnel involved in procurement, supply, and logistics. It provides fundamental knowledge on procurement planning, market analysis, and tender participation.

Currently, the defense procurement course is the most extensive on the platform and, consequently, one of the most challenging. Only one in four participants (23%) successfully complete the course and receive a certificate. In their feedback, service members highlight the course’s informativeness, noting it as a valuable opportunity to test their knowledge in procurement.

“The military is not only about technology and combat operations. It also involves supply planning and coordination with suppliers, which is critical to the effective functioning of military units. Our team is proud that this comprehensive, information-rich course on defense procurement has been useful to so many users,” said Kateryna Chernohorenko, Deputy Minister of Defence for Digital Development.

For several months, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been in the process of implementing the position of Authorized Procurement Officer, resulting in consistently high demand for defence procurement training.

“New personnel are being appointed, and procurement units are being established within brigades. Given the heavy workload of procurement officers, the opportunity to take the course via the mobile app at a convenient time is a major advantage. We are pleased that over 1,000 users have already registered for the course and hope it will help military procurement officers work more effectively,” said Anastasiia Kovalova, coordinator of educational programmes at the Defence Procurement Reform Project.

The training program was developed by a joint team from the Defence Procurement Reform Project (Public Union ‘Foundation for Support of Reforms in Ukraine’) and the Office for Support of Changes at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, under the framework of the support program led by the UK Special Defence Advisor.

Army+ now offers a total of 12 educational courses. 95,000 service members are currently undergoing training, with 38,000 having successfully completed at least one course. Since the launch of the training platform, the most popular courses have been ‘UAV Fundamentals: An Introduction to Unmanned Systems’ (started by 32,000 users), ‘Information Resilience: Cybersecurity’ (23,500 users), and ‘Fundamentals of Battlefield Communication’ (15,300 users).
