Education
Oleksandr Syrskyi received a higher military education:
- 1986 – moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School;
- 1998 – Armed Forces Academy of Ukraine;
- 2006 – National Defence University of Ukraine.
Military Career
Rose through all ranks from motorized rifle platoon commander to commander of a separate mechanized brigade.
Subsequently served as:
- Deputy Chief of Staff, Rapid Reaction Corps;
- Chief of Staff – First Deputy Commander, Joint Operational Command;
- First Deputy Chief, Main Directorate of Military Cooperation and Peacekeeping Operations, General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- First Deputy Chief, Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- Chief, Joint Operational Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- Commander, Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- Commander, Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since February 8, 2024.
Hero of Ukraine. Recipient of numerous state and military decorations.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is responsible for the direct military leadership of the Armed Forces, overseeing their operations and the coordination of other defense forces under his command.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is appointed by the President of Ukraine upon the recommendation of the Minister of Defense, and may be removed by the President. The Commander-in-Chief reports to both the President and the Minister of Defense on military-strategic objectives, defense operations, and the readiness and capabilities of the armed forces.
