The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is responsible for the direct military leadership of the Armed Forces, overseeing their operations and the coordination of other defense forces under his command. He also exercises other powers determined by the Decree of the President of Ukraine "The powers of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" 

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is appointed to the post at the request of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and is dismissed by the President of Ukraine, reports to the President of Ukraine and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine on the achievement of military-strategic goals in the field of defense by military forces and means, as well as maintaining the capabilities of these forces and means before application. 

On February 8, 2024, General Oleksandr Stanislavovych Syrskyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
