Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are a structure within the Armed Forces of Ukraine that ensures the front's uninterrupted functioning by organizing supplies and maintenance. The Logistics Forces Command was established on May 29, 2018, to consolidate the services of the Rear and Armaments, which were previously operating separately. This move aimed to enhance the efficacy of the Armed Forces' logistics processes.
One of the Logistics Forces' primary objectives was to prepare the Ukrainian army to NATO standards. The Command has been interoperable with the logistics systems of the North Atlantic Alliance states from January 2020, and the Logistics Forces have been designated as a separate military branch as of January 1, 2022.
The main function of the Logistics Forces is the technical and logistical support of the Ukrainian army, which includes storage, repair, transportation of weapons, ammunition, military equipment, food and fuel. The management structure includes central management, subordinate units throughout Ukraine - arsenals, storage and repair bases, warehouses, automobile battalions, etc.
Implementation of NATO standards became an important achievement of the Logistics Forces. This includes the Logfas program to support logistics during operations and exercises, as well as the Korovaj system, which ensures transparency in the distribution of weapons and equipment received from international partners. Automation of processes continues, in particular with the help of the SAP ERP system for inventory management of gear and clothing and spare parts.
The process of resupplying the Logistics Forces with new equipment is also ongoing. The arsenal already includes Daewoo Novus trucks, Renault-based refueling stations, and mobile workshops for repairing equipment near the front. Restoration of damaged equipment is also an important task. In the first half of 2024, the Logistics Forces' repair bases restored more than 2,500 units of equipment, with more than 1,500 fixed by field brigades in combat zones.
The Logistics Forces are also actively engaged in the recovery of equipment provided by international partners, such as M777 howitzers and M113 armored personnel carriers. Furthermore, the food service staff was provided with modular kitchens, warehouse trailers for food storage, and refrigerators.
Transportation is critical to successful defense, including the redeployment of troops, the restoration of combat capability, and the delivery of military aid from international partners. Modernizing the infrastructure, such as installing effective heat supply systems and providing housing for military personnel on training grounds, is another duty of the Logistics Forces.
