Communications and cyber security troops

The Communications and Cybersecurity Troops are a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, responsible for planning and ensuring the deployment, operation, and deactivation of communication and information systems, as well as combat control and alert systems. They are also tasked with expanding these systems in peacetime, during special periods, and under emergency and wartime conditions, in order to support command and control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Additionally, they take measures to maintain the national cybersecurity system and defend against military aggression in cyberspace (cyber defense). 

Units and subunits of the Communications and Cybersecurity Troops are part of all branches and separate types of troops (forces) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

The entities of the Communications and Cybersecurity Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine include: 

  • military command bodies (MCBs); 

  • structural subunits of MCBs; 

  • military units (subunits); 

  • military educational institutions. 

The modern challenges, driven by leading countries transitioning to the concept of network-centric warfare and shifting the theater of operations to cyberspace, increasingly demand that the personnel of the Communications and Cybersecurity Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine learn and implement the latest communication tools and technologies, provide communication services that ensure the functioning of the unified information environment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to achieve operational and technical interoperability with other components of the state's Defense Forces and NATO member states. 

A signal soldier embodies versatility. They can adapt to changing situations and make quick decisions. The experience of a signal soldier plays an extremely important role. Their skills and abilities are indispensable tools. Comprehensive training and development are the main goals of a signal soldier, because we defeat the enemy with intelligence, skill, and willpower. 

Every day, through their diligent service, professionalism, and determination, military signalers provide the Defense Forces with one of the most vital resources—communication. They protect information and communication systems, engage in cyber warfare, and demonstrate the strength of our people to the enemy, confidently asserting: communication saves lives just as much as weapons do.
