Ukraine and the United Kingdom work to strengthen air defence and advance anti-ballistic projects
Ukraine and the United Kingdom are working on solutions to strengthen the capabilities of the Defence Forces and the protection of Ukrainian skies.
This was the focus of a meeting between Acting Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi and Chief of the Defence Staff of the UK Armed Forces Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton.
Evgeniy Khmara thanked the United Kingdom for its leadership and consistent support for Ukraine.
The two sides discussed Ukraine’s work to seize the initiative on the battlefield.
Working in close coordination with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence is preparing further steps to increase pressure on russia, inflict greater losses on the enemy and take the use of unmanned systems to a new level.
Strengthening the protection of Ukrainian skies
A separate focus of the meeting was strengthening Ukrainian air defence and developing joint projects with partners.
In particular, the two sides discussed anti-ballistic projects to which the United Kingdom could contribute.
Ukraine is also counting on assistance with the supply of missiles for air defence systems and Meteor missiles for Gripen aircraft. This matters for countering russian glide bomb carriers.
Counter-Shahed systems funded by revenues from frozen russian assets
The two sides also discussed the supply of counter-Shahed systems. This area could be financed from revenues generated by frozen russian assets.
We are working to make sure that Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the whole of Europe are ready to counter today’s threats and the challenges of the future.
He stressed that Ukraine has unique experience of modern warfare, which can strengthen its partners as well.
