Ukraine and Sweden have held discussions on the priorities and specifics of the new assistance package
Deputy Minister of Defence for European Integration Sergiy Boyev discussed with the Swedish delegation, led by Brigadier General Johan Axelsson, the priorities for 2025-2026 and the cooperation formats between Sweden and the Ukrainian defense industries.
Earlier, the Swedish government announced the allocation of EUR 63 million in financial assistance to Ukraine, of which EUR 20 million is designated for supporting the Ukrainian defense industry, following the ‘Danish Model.’ During the discussions, the Swedish delegation clarified the allocation of the mentioned funds and familiarized itself with Ukraine's priorities for receiving assistance in 2025.
The Deputy Minister of Defence emphasized that the priorities remain air defense systems to protect Ukrainian skies, as well as the formation and staffing of new brigades. The parties also summarized Sweden's contribution to the initiative for training Ukrainian military personnel.
“Sweden is a dependable partner that continues to support us. I am grateful for the investment in the production of artillery systems and extend an invitation to invest in the production of long-range drones. We have to work together to ensure long-term capabilities that will strengthen Ukraine's position,” the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Sergiy Boyev emphasized.
The parties also discussed plans for industrial cooperation and the potential for establishing joint manufacturing ventures. A significant aspect of the discussion focused on the feasibility of conducting repairs on Swedish equipment locally to facilitate its swift return to the battlefield.
A number of the discussed projects will be implemented as early as 2025.
