Throughout the three years of war, russia has employed munitions with hazardous chemicals on more than 6,900 occasions
Since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, over 6,900 cases of russian occupiers using munitions with dangerous chemicals have been confirmed.
This was announced by Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, Colonel Valerii Veber, during a seminar as part of command and staff exercises on criminal prosecution for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) crimes.
“During the large-scale war, almost 3,400 Ukrainian service members with symptoms of poisoning from an unidentified chemical substance have been provided with medical care,” said Colonel Valerii Veber.
The command and staff exercises were held in Žilina, Slovakia, with the support of the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI). The event focused on enhancing capabilities in prosecuting chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear crimes.
The participants of the exercises familiarized themselves with international experience, gained comprehensive knowledge and understanding of legal instruments, and analyzed national and international legislation (conventions, amendments, and other obligations) applicable to prosecuting CBRN crimes.
