The Ministry of Defence has introduced the Catalog of Typical Defects in Gear and Clothing Assets to enhance the quality of supplies for the Armed Forces

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has introduced a new tool for quality control of gear and clothing assets supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine—the Catalog of Typical Defects in Gear and Clothing Assets. This initiative aims to strengthen requirements for suppliers, ensure transparency in product acceptance procedures, and standardize approaches to quality assessment.

The Catalog is available in both electronic and paper formats. It systematically categorizes the most frequently identified defects from product sample inspections since 2022, including defects in fabrics, personal protective equipment, footwear, and other gear and clothing items.

“This tool enables us to strengthen the requirements for suppliers, ensure greater transparency in the acceptance of goods, and further improve the quality of gear and clothing provision. The Armed Forces must be provided with only the best,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.

The Catalog will also serve as a shared information platform for interaction with suppliers, helping to document and classify identified defects. This will ensure a consistent approach to quality assessment, regardless of region, military unit, or asset type.

“Given that the acceptance of gear and clothing assets occurs in various locations and by different specialists, we required unified standards. The Catalog enables the Territorial Quality Control Centers to operate in a coordinated manner, irrespective of region or asset type,” stated Ihor Leshchenko, Head of the Central Quality Control Department.

The development and implementation of this document mark another step in enhancing the institutional capacity of the gear and clothing supply system for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ensuring that Ukrainian defenders are provided with high-quality, reliable, and safe gear, clothing, and equipment.
