The Government has supported the Ministry of Defence’s initiative to establish scholarships in honor of Ukraine’s Defenders

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft Presidential Decree providing for enhanced academic scholarships to be awarded to cadets, trainees, and adjuncts of military higher education institutions in honor of Ukraine’s Defenders who gave their lives in the struggle for the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
This framework document establishes the legal foundation for further development and implementation of a mechanism to award enhanced academic scholarships named after fallen Defenders of Ukraine within the military education system.
The concept proposed by the Ministry of Defence stipulates that the list and number of such scholarships will be further determined by a separate government decision based on a proposal from the Ministry of Defense.
The draft act also stipulates the revocation of Presidential Decree No. 209 dated February 11, 2000, which instituted scholarships in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. The decree is subject to repeal pursuant to the Law “On the Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and the Decolonization of Toponymy.”
Currently, 28 scholarships named after heroes of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 are awarded at higher military educational institutions and military training units affiliated with higher educational institutions. The scholarship amount for cadets not in military service is set at double their monetary allowance, while for cadets under contract military service, students, and adjuncts, it includes a 100 percent increase of their base salary.
