The Defence Forces expand their fleet of ground robots with a unique amphibious system

The Ministry of Defence has codified and adopted the Ukrainian-made UNEX UGV remote-controlled self-propelled armored platform for deployment within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the MoD’s Main Directorate for Support of the Life Cycle of Weapons and Military Equipment.

The self-propelled platform is built on a specialized chassis, ensuring exceptional mobility in the most challenging conditions. The platform can traverse water, floodplains, swamps, mire, sand, difficult surfaces, and ice seamlessly. The weight distribution across its axles and wide tires generates less surface pressure than an infantry soldier’s foot, preventing the activation of mines designed to target automotive equipment and armored vehicles. During a demonstration, the armored amphibious platform drove over a ceramic plate and a coffee cup, leaving them undamaged.

The amphibious platform overcomes water obstacles, fallen trees, large rocks, and ditches. The unmanned UNEX UGV is capable of moving from water to ice effortlessly. It operates effectively in adverse weather conditions across a wide range of temperatures.

The UNEX UGV is resistant to electronic warfare systems, featuring a reliable radio control system, a programmable autopilot, and high-capacity batteries. It can be manufactured in various configurations, including those equipped with a weapon station or electronic warfare system, or it can be tailored for tasks such as logistics, evacuation, and demining.

“Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, the Ministry of Defence has codified and adopted nearly 80 domestically produced ground robotic complexes for deployment within the Defence Forces, with about fifteen added in 2025 alone. These ground robotic systems perform various tasks, including assault and defensive operations, reconnaissance, mine-laying and demining, surveillance, logistics, and evacuation. The Defence Forces have already gained experience in conducting military missions, such as repelling assaults, using ground robots and aerial drones in coordination,” stated Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Valerii Churkin.
