Meeting of the Ministers of Defence of Ukraine and Latvia: Defense production, Drone Coalition, and training of Ukrainian military personnel

Денис Шмигаль подякував пану Спрудсу за візит у ці святкові дні

Ukraine’s Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal held talks in Kyiv with Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Mr. Sprūds for his visit during these significant national celebration days.

“We highly appreciate the support that Latvia has extended to Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale war. In particular, the recent decision of the Latvian Government to allocate €2 million for the procurement of weapons within the framework of PURL is of great importance to us,” said Ukraine’s Defence Minister during the talks on 23 August.

The parties discussed plans for both short- and long-term defense collaboration. The Ukrainian delegation briefed its counterparts on the current situation at the front and the urgent needs of the Defence Forces to sustain efforts to deter the enemy.

Key cooperation priorities include advancing joint production initiatives in both Ukraine and Latvia. The discussion also covered ongoing Latvian involvement in the program for training Ukrainian service members.

Separately, Denys Shmyhal highlighted Latvia’s leading role in the Drone Coalition’s activities.
