In 2024, the Ministry of Defence quadrupled the number of Ukrainian unmanned systems authorized for operational use

In 2024, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine authorized the operational use of over 330 domestically produced unmanned systems—4.4 times more than the 75 systems authorized in the previous year.

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Valerii Churkin outlined this trend in an op-ed published by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

According to him, unmanned systems are gaining a leading role in the armament architecture of the world’s leading armies.

In countering russian aggression, Ukraine has focused on developing military technologies as an asymmetric response to the enemy's numerical superiority in personnel and equipment.

The outcome of this conflict will largely depend on the ability to systematically and rapidly scale the production of advanced warfare tools.

“We have made a significant breakthrough in the domain of unmanned systems. Over 95% of UAVs in use on the front lines today are domestically produced in Ukraine,” noted Valerii Churkin.

He emphasized that the more advanced tools of warfare are introduced, the greater the capabilities of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.

Priority must be given to the production of relatively low-cost yet effective strike capabilities. “We must inflict maximum losses on the enemy with minimal expenditure,” the Deputy Minister concluded.
