How the procedure for typical testing of serial models of weaponry and military equipment works – explanation from the Ministry of Defense

Typical Testing (TT) is a mandatory element in evaluating the effectiveness and advisability of implementing changes to a serially produced model of weaponry or military equipment (WME) or to its manufacturing technology.

Typical testing is conducted on WME models in which proposed changes have already been incorporated into the design or production technology.

The scope of testing must be sufficient to assess the impact of the changes on the technical and tactical characteristics (TTC) of the WME. This scope is defined by the TT program and methodology, which the manufacturer develops in accordance with DSTU V 15.211 standards.

Typical testing can be conducted either at the manufacturer’s own testing facility or at a specialized testing organization, such as the State Research Institute of Testing and Certification of Weapons and Military Equipment ([email protected]). It may also take place at an enterprise that is not the manufacturer but has the necessary testing facilities.

The results of the TT are documented in an Act (report) and protocols, which include all test results.

If the effectiveness and advisability of the proposed changes are confirmed by the TT results, these changes are incorporated into the working design documentation for the WME according to DSTU V 15.902 standards.

For registering changes to the Technical Specifications of a WME models, please contact the Main Directorate for Support of the Weaponry and Military Equipment Life Cycle at: [email protected]
