Guidance from the Ministry of Defence on the appropriate timing and procedures for updating the Technical Specifications for Weapons and Military Equipment

Ukrainian weapons manufacturers are actively working not only on developing new models of weapons and military equipment but also on enhancing the currently produced ones. Frequently, the question arises: when and how should a manufacturer of weaponry and military equipment amend their design documentation, including Technical Specifications (TS)?

Specialists from the Main Directorate of Support for the Lifecycle of Weapons and Military Equipment prepared explanations on the conditions and procedures for amending the TS.

To amend the Technical Specifications for a weapon or military equipment model, the manufacturer or developer must follow the State Standard of Ukraine B 15.902:2023, which outlines the key provisions for the amendment process.

The experts of the Main Directorate have also outlined several scenarios in which it becomes necessary to amend the Technical Specifications: with the mandatory conduct of Standard Tests for a sample of weapons and military equipment, and without conducting tests. In addition, an exceptional aspect has been addressed: the procedure to follow when an error is discovered in an already approved document.

Detailed explanations are available on the official website of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine under the "Innovative Projects" section, by selecting the “Arsenal” tab. It provides guidance on when and how to amend the Technical Specifications for weapons or military equipment models.

Manufacturers and designers of weapons and military equipment are encouraged to email the Main Department of Support for the Lifecycle of Weapons and Military Equipment for further inquiries regarding the codification of weapons or military equipment: [email protected]
