Defense production and battlefield needs: Denys Shmyhal meets Chair of Bundestag Defence Committee

Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, held talks with Thomas Röwekamp, Chair of the German Bundestag Defence Committee, on defense production, military personnel training, and the utilization of frozen russian assets.

The Defence Minister thanked Germany for its steadfast support of Ukraine in countering russian aggression.

Denys Shmyhal noted that defense cooperation between the two countries continues to progress. The parties addressed cooperation with a range of German companies, the joint production and maintenance of equipment in Ukraine and Germany, and support for the training of Ukrainian military personnel.

“We have coordinated on our critical battlefield needs. Last night underscored the urgent need to strengthen air defense. We appreciate Germany’s contribution, particularly the delivered IRIS-T systems and the planned provision of additional Patriot systems. We count on this support continuing,” the Defence Minister said.

He also called on partners to intensify efforts to confiscate frozen russian assets. These funds may constitute a source of budgetary support for Ukraine.

“I am grateful for Germany’s substantial role in multilateral assistance projects for Ukraine, including initiatives led by NATO and the EU. Our German partners have assured that they will continue supporting Ukraine for as long as needed,” summarized Denys Shmyhal.
