Cabinet of Ministers establishes 30 academic scholarships in memory of Ukraine’s fallen defenders
At its session, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution to establish academic scholarships in memory of defenders who gave their lives in the fight for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
From now on, 30 such scholarships will be awarded to cadets, students, and postgraduate trainees of military higher education institutions overseen by the Ministry of Defence, as well as to those of military training units within higher education institutions overseen by the Ministry of Defence.
“Our goal is to provide additional motivation and encouragement so that cadets and students of military higher education institutions can achieve high academic performance,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Denys Shmyhal.
The scholarships will be awarded based on academic-year performance. The Ministry of Defence defines the procedure for candidate selection and scholarship allocation.
The scholarship amounts will be as follows:
- 4,000 UAH per month for cadets of military higher education institutions pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees;
- 10,000 UAH per month for students and postgraduate trainees of military education institutions.
The scholarships will be paid in addition to the service remuneration and other entitlements assigned to the scholarship recipient.
At the same time, this decision voided the documents that had established 28 scholarships named after heroes of the “Great Patriotic War” and two scholarships named after P. S. Nakhimov, as they do not comply with the Law ‘On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and on the Decolonization of Toponymy’.
