Basic General Military Training (BGMT) for students will commence in September: duration and course details revealed
Basic General Military Training (BGMT) for students at higher education establishments is set to begin in September 2025, encompassing 300 academic hours.
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.
Basic General Military Training will be divided into two phases:
The theoretical course consists of 90 academic hours, delivered at the educational establishments;
The practical course consists of 210 academic hours, conducted in training units, Armed Forces centers, and other establishments.
“All students, regardless of gender, are required to complete the theoretical course. The practical course is compulsory for men who are physically fit for military duty. Women will undertake the practical course solely at their own discretion, following a medical examination,” stated Serhii Melnyk.
During the training, students will acquire fundamental knowledge in tactical, intelligence, psychological preparation, first aid, and the basics of military discipline. Additionally, they will gain proficiency in weapon handling.
After completing BGMT, students will take the military oath, receive a military specialty, and be awarded a certificate.
