Artificial intelligence in warfare: solutions for the military that the “A1” Center will develop

To stay ahead of the enemy on the battlefield, the Ministry of Defence has established the Defense AI Center “A1”, aiming to leverage AI to secure a real advantage over the enemy in the air, on the ground, and in the economic domain.
“A1 is intended to become a unified hub bringing together military personnel, companies, researchers, and international partners with defense AI at its core. This will allow us to synchronize the development of solutions and quickly turn ideas into effective tools for the battlefield,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov.
Key areas of effort for “A1”
Developing battlefield solutions is the priority and main focus of “A1”. The Center will develop effective AI solutions for the battlefield to outpace the enemy and support effective decision-making in combat conditions.
The primary focus areas are:
- Systems for converting battlefield data into new combat scenarios. The Center will develop systems that will help analyze battlefield data, predict enemy actions, and model effective courses of action.
- Development of autonomous systems. Key areas of effort include AI for drones and robotic platforms capable of operating in GPS-denied and electronic warfare (EW) environments, as well as software solutions to integrate systems into a unified battlefield network. This will enable systems to conduct missions with minimal human presence on the battlefield, thereby reducing personnel risk.
Second, artificial intelligence will streamline internal processes within the military. Plans include deploying internal systems to optimize administrative processes within the Ministry of Defence and units, including AI agents to improve procurement, financial auditing, and recruitment.
The third focus is accelerating innovation in the defense industry. Artificial intelligence should guide efforts to enhance the effectiveness of Ukrainian weapons—from missiles to drones. To support this effort, simulation environments will be launched to enable the design and testing of new defense solutions across multiple domains of warfare.
“In modern warfare, victory belongs to the side whose technology responds faster than the enemy’s system. AI will accelerate response times on the battlefield. It will also drive the emergence of new game changers across all domains of warfare—from the chemical industry to missile development,” said Danylo Tsvok, CEO of the Defense AI Center “A1”.
