Army+ launches a new course on the fundamentals of combat planning

The Army+ app now features a new professional course — “Fundamentals of Combat Planning” — developed for commanders and all military personnel participating in unit training. The course helps learners master a clear, practical, and comprehensible combat planning process built on the Troop Leading Procedures (TLP) framework, enabling faster and more confident decision-making that takes into account all key factors.

The course consists of more than 35 lessons that guide service members step by step through every stage of planning: from receiving a combat mission and analyzing the terrain to assessing risks, developing a course of action (COA), and issuing an operations order (OPORD). Each module includes interim tests, followed by a final exam and a certificate confirming the knowledge acquired.

Military personnel will learn:

  • the concept of combat planning and the sequence of steps that constitute the Troop Leading Procedures (TLP) process;
  • the factors that influence unit training and the selection of a course of action (COA);
  • how to analyze the terrain, weather conditions, enemy forces, and own capabilities;
  • how to properly prepare and issue a combat order.

The course was developed by the “Captain Training” L-1C Team and the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The training will be helpful for all personnel involved in preparing units for combat operations — from sergeants to junior officers.

Army+ now offers 18 training courses that cover tactics, combat preparation, unmanned systems operations, psychological resilience, cybersecurity, and other key competencies. Thousands of service members study on the platform every day, and hundreds successfully complete the courses.

The launch of the “Fundamentals of Combat Planning” course marks another step in the development of the Army+ training platform, which enables service members to quickly master modern methods of warfare, improve unit readiness, and execute combat missions more effectively.
