Ukraine received 21 units of Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers from Latvia
The handover of these armoured personnel carriers (APCs) took place at the Ādaži Military Base in Riga during the working visit of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
The transferred APCs will immediately be adopted into service with the Special Operations Forces. Over the course of 2025, Ukraine received from Latvia all 42 armoured vehicles pledged as part of the assistance package. In addition, Latvia delivered 12 CVR(T) combat reconnaissance vehicles as part of a previously announced military aid package.
“I extend gratitude to Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds, the Government of Latvia, and the people of Latvia for their exceptional support. We highly appreciate every step taken shoulder to shoulder with us. The fight continues, as the aggressor intensifies its pressure. Together, we must respond to this challenge,” stated Denys Shmyhal, expressing appreciation for Latvia’s steadfast support.
He also thanked Latvia for its additional €2.2 million contribution to the PURL initiative, its financial assistance to the Shelter Coalition, and its participation in Operation Renovator, NATO’s project which aims to rebuild and upgrade five military rehabilitation centres in Ukraine.
The Minister of Defence of Ukraine also expressed hope for the implementation of financing through a so-called reparations credit, using frozen russian assets.
“Joint decisive steps are essential on this matter, as it concerns the security of Ukraine and other European nations,” concluded Denys Shmyhal.
