Ukraine and NATO launch the Persistent Airfield Denial Innovation Challenge

NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and the NATO–Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) have announced the Persistent Airfield Denial Innovation Challenge, with prize funding of up to €250,000.
The objective of this Innovation Challenge is to identify solutions capable of long-term restricting the adversary’s use of airfield infrastructure and aviation assets.
What solutions are Ukraine and NATO seeking?
Participants are expected to propose solutions capable of targeting critical components of adversary aviation infrastructure.
Proposals will be considered if they enable autonomous or operator-controlled engagement of:
- aircraft;
- runways;
- fuel and ammunition depots;
- ground support infrastructure.
Detailed challenge requirements are available at this link.
An opportunity for Ukrainian manufacturers and developers
Ukrainian miltech companies have gained unique experience in developing and fielding advanced technologies in real-world combat environments.
JATEC and NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) invite manufacturers, start-ups, and engineering teams to participate and showcase their solutions.
Prize funding and selection process
A notable feature of this challenge is the significantly increased prize funding offered by NATO. Challenge winners may receive up to €250,000 following the demonstration of their solutions.
The submission deadline is 20 July 2026.
Up to 10 finalists will be selected during the first phase of the challenge and announced on 11 August 2026.
