The Ministry of Defense has set caloric requirements for food supplies to the military

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has established caloric requirements for essential food items supplied for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This decision follows examinations of military units, which revealed shortcomings, including instances of food supplies with insufficient caloric value.

“In wartime, the physical and psychological demands on military personnel are extremely high. Therefore, it is especially important that food products fully meet our defenders' nutritional and energy needs. Setting clear requirements for the caloric value of products is not just about standards; it ensures that our defenders receive what they need to maintain combat readiness and stay healthy,” stated Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Klimenkov.

The Ministry of Defense’s Non-lethal Defense Acquisition Agency (DOT) is expected to start using these requirements as an annex to state contracts for food procurement, which will take effect at the beginning of 2025. Previously, the caloric content was determined by the supplier at the contract stage with DOT.

The new standards are outlined in the document “Requirements for the Caloric Value of Certain Food Products According to the Food Product Catalog, with Indicators Defined by State Standards.”
