The Ministry of Defence has joined the development of NATO’s Science and Technology Strategy for the first time

For the first time, experts from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence structures are participating in the development of NATO’s new Science & Technology Strategy. This opportunity stems from Ukraine’s privileged NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO) membership.

The Science and Technology Strategy serves as the foundational document outlining NATO’s objectives, tasks, and implementation mechanisms in this domain, while also defining the policy to be executed by the NATO Science and Technology Board (STB) over the next six years.

Ukrainian specialists are collaborating closely with STO representatives on the development of the Strategy.

“The participation of our specialists reflects our partners’ trust and interest in closer cooperation with the Ministry of Defence scientists in defense-related research and development. Proper coordination and consolidated efforts will drive progress in implementing NATO’s Science and Technology Strategy,” stated Volodymyr Mirnenko, Head of the Department of Military Education and Science.

He noted that developing a shared scientific knowledge base and implementing scientific diplomacy efforts will contribute to European integration and promote greater interoperability with NATO. Furthermore, this collaboration will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities through joint scientific advancements and technological innovations.

The STO is a NATO subsidiary entity established to meet the scientific and technological needs of NATO and partner countries by generating and disseminating advanced scientific knowledge, technological development, and innovation.
