Since the beginning of the year, the Defense Forces have hit more than 3 000 russian tanks – equivalent of 102 battalions

Since the start of 2024, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have destroyed or disabled 3 179 russian tanks. Given that a typical tank battalion consists of 31 tanks, this means that over the past 10 months, Ukrainian defenders have effectively put out of action the equivalent of 102 enemy tank battalions.

May 12 became a sort of a sort of “Tankers' Day” for russian forces. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, our units hit 31 tanks of the occupiers during that day. So, within one day, the russian army lost an entire tank battalion destroyed and defeated.

These losses could cost the aggressor’s budget at least $9 billion, based on average global prices for this type of equipment (according to open-source data).

For context, $9 billion is equivalent to roughly 16 annual budgets of the city of Chelyabinsk, known for having one of the worst environmental situations in russia. Instead of addressing domestic social issues, however, the aggressor's leadership continues to pour vast sums into the war.
