Service membres support the introduction of kosher, halal, and plant-based rations – Army+ Survey
The Army+ app recently completed a survey among Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel regarding their satisfaction with field rations, particularly the daily field food packs No. 15 (both standard and enhanced with heating).
"Over a two-week period, 9,128 active military personnel participated in the survey. The Non-Lethal Acquisition Agency (DOT) aims to make rations more diverse and tailored to the needs of military personnel. Army+ enabled us to quickly gather feedback from service members and analyze it to improve food quality," said Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization, Kateryna Chernohorenko.
The survey covered the quality of food packs, the convenience and quality of packaging, and consideration of religious, ethical, and medical needs. Results showed that over half of the military personnel rated the rations highly: 51% gave scores of four or five out of five.
Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klimenkov emphasized, "The survey results revealed that around 25% of respondents require inclusive meal options. This underscores our responsibility to create individualized solutions that consider each soldier's religious, ethical, and personal needs. We are actively working on this and expect to show results soon."
The Ministry of Defense and the Non-Lethal Acquisition Agency will take these survey results into account in their work on updating and expanding the range of food packs. Technical specifications for halal rations have already been approved, and updates for plant-based and kosher rations are underway. These rations will meet religious, medical, and ethical requirements.
Special attention was given to the soldiers' preferences regarding meals they would like to see included. Traditional Ukrainian dishes—such as porridge, borscht, and meat dishes—are in high demand. Respondents also expressed a need for variety, particularly soups, vegetable dishes, and desserts.
Additionally, the survey results will help improve the quality of current packs. Soldiers' suggestions and feedback will be considered in updating technical specifications and in planning procurement for 2025.
