Our task is to make sure that the entire path of a wounded person can be tracked and recorded - Natalia Kalmykova

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine in her speech at the First Annual International Congress on Military Medicine and Mental Health.

“Our task is to provide an opportunity to track and record the entire path of the wounded,” said Nataliia Kalmykova. “This will enable better patient care because, at each stage of treatment, the specialist can get information about the previous care steps. It will also help create an effective system that will allow for better resource allocation at the state level. The way to solve this problem is to maximize digitizing the entire process of a wounded person's stay in the health care system facilities."

The Deputy Minister of Defence also emphasized the system of rehabilitation of military personnel. According to her, thanks to Western partners, a high percentage of military service members receive high-quality rehabilitation services, allowing them to return to duty quickly.

“Our Western partners note that we have a very high percentage of military service members who receive high-quality rehabilitation services and return to service,” she pointed out. “Rehabilitation has been implemented in both civilian and military facilities and begins immediately after the start of treatment. Today, almost every health care facility has multidisciplinary teams involved in rehabilitation. It is based on highly qualified specialists who create all the conditions needed for a quick recovery of a military service member”.

Nataliia Kalmykova also talked about future plans for developing the rehabilitation system. With the support of our partners, we plan to establish five modern rehabilitation centers with state-of-the-art equipment.

“Today, here at this event, we have partners helping to create five modern rehabilitation centers with the most up-to-date equipment," she said. “There is also the Recovery project. Thanks to this project, we will have a hospital that meets all standards. In addition, a pilot rehabilitation project is currently underway where we are developing approaches for early prediction. That is, we determine whether a person will return to service for health reasons or transition to civilian life. All of these projects are going to create an effective system for rehabilitating military personnel that meets the best international standards”.
