Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, and Germany’s Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, visited frontline regions and several operational headquarters near the front line.

Boris Pistorius was among the few foreign defence ministers to personally visit Ukrainian service members so close to the front line.

“This is an example of true European leadership, and today Ukraine feels this support,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov.

Military headquarters and battlefield technologies

During the visit, the military briefed the ministers on the operational situation on the front line, the use of the DELTA system, assault operation planning, strikes against enemy logistics, reconnaissance, and the coordination of various types of drones within a unified battle command-and-control system.

Particular attention was given to Ukraine’s use of technology to increase combat effectiveness and protect service members’ lives.

Germany’s support in technology-driven warfare

Germany is actively supporting Ukraine in technology-driven warfare. The partners have financed over $1 billion for the development of deep strike and middle strike capabilities.

Today, middle strike capabilities are systematically disrupting enemy logistics. Ukraine already conducts around 5,000 strikes every month at depths of more than 20 km and continues to scale up this capability.

Increased drone procurement will further improve both the scale and effectiveness of these strikes each month.

“I would also like to specifically acknowledge the support for drone assault units. Germany was the first country to back this innovative capability,” Mykhailo Fedorov emphasised.

Participation in the meeting of EU defence ministers

During their frontline visit, Mykhailo Fedorov and Boris Pistorius participated online in the meeting of EU defence ministers, chaired by Kaja Kallas.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian side stressed the need to maintain support for Ukraine and ensure flexibility in the European loan so that the most urgent frontline requirements can be met.

Ukraine’s experience as a contribution to European security

For Ukraine, it is important to show its partners the reality of war: how strategy is evolving, and how technologies help destroy the enemy and save lives.

It is through Ukraine’s experience that partners can already enhance their own defence systems and capabilities today. This is Ukraine’s contribution to the defence of the democratic world.

Several months ago, Ukraine presented its key priorities and strategy to partners. Today, those efforts are producing visible results.

“Our shared goal is to stop russia in Ukraine. To achieve this, Ukraine and Europe must stand strong together,” Mykhailo Fedorov emphasised.

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence expressed gratitude to Germany and personally to Boris Pistorius for the two days spent working in Ukraine, for the readiness to witness the reality of the war first-hand, and for decisions already helping to destroy the enemy and save the lives of Ukrainians.
