Ministry of Defence approved changes to AFU food products catalogue
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has approved changes to the food products catalogue of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The changes were jointly developed by the MOD and Derzhavnyii Operator Tylu (DOT), which has already announced food purchase for the AFU for the second half of the year.
“Our military are the key defence factor of the country. Balanced nutrition guarantees their combat readiness and ability to perform tasks in any conditions. The changes to the catalogue once again demonstate our aim of providing the AFU with quality food products,” said Dmytro Klimenkov, Deputy Minister of Defence.
In the first place, the innovations will contribute to improving the quality of servicemen’s diet. In particular, various condiments, groats, fish and canned foods have been added to the list. Also, canned fruits will be partially replaced with fresh ones.
There are additional requirements for certain food categories:
- Flour, pasta, canned fish and sausages only of the highest quality
- Fish will be supplied headless (to rationalize the price per unit of product weight)
- Expanded the range of fat content for dairy products
At the same time, some products (sago grits, sturgeon and asparagus) were removed from the catalogue because of being rarely ordered and, due to the limitations on the daily food allowance per serviceman, narrowed the possibilities of ordering other items.
“The changes made to the catalogue will contribute to improving the quality of food soldiers receive. We have added important items that directly affect the taste of meals. At the same time, we removed some “exotic” items, which narrowed options of ordering meat, dairy or other products due to the limitations on the daily food allowance per serviceman,” said Victoria Vinogradova, Director of Procurement Management at DOT.
