Less routine for staff officers: SPECTR AI platform to analyse combat data and predict enemy actions
The Defense AI Center A1 under the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is developing SPECTR, an AI system for analysing combat data and planning operations.
Several combat units are already testing it.
How the SPECTR AI system will change operational planning
According to Danylo Tsvok, Head of the Defense AI Center A1, Ukraine holds a unique body of data on modern warfare. SPECTR will help turn that data into a real advantage on the battlefield.
The system’s core tasks include:
- analysing information;
- identifying patterns;
- generating recommendations for planning operations and organising processes in the military;
- automating routine work at headquarters.
This will let troops work with information from the battlefield faster, while the data stays within a secure perimeter.
Essentially, we are building an operating system for warfighting. It will help the military choose effective courses of action and predict the enemy’s possible moves.
How the Defense AI Center A1 is building an AI-driven army
The Ministry of Defence set up the Defense AI Center A1 in March 2026 with support from the UK Government. The team was launched with a clear mission: to turn AI into Ukraine’s advantage on the battlefield and build an AI-driven army, meaning a military enhanced by artificial intelligence.
Building an AI-driven army covers three main areas:
- faster, more effective data-driven decision-making;
- the use of AI in strike systems;
- cutting bureaucracy in the military.
A1 is already working on three flagship projects in combat data analysis and the refinement of defence innovations. Units are already testing some of these solutions.
