Kyiv hosted the First Annual International Congress on Military Medicine and Mental Health
The event was attended by the President of Ukraine, the First Lady of Ukraine, and top government officials. It brought together the best specialists, volunteers, and partners who are constantly working to improve the medical environment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The main agenda of the Congress covered issues related to medical care, mental health, and the reintegration of service members released from captivity.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, informed about the achievements and plans in the areas of medical care and mental health support in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
We have 500,000 first-aid kits in stock. Another 300,000 first aid kits and 500,000 tourniquets will be delivered as part of the signed agreements. This is an essential step in improving the readiness of our military to meet any challenges," Rustem Umerov said.
According to him, the Ministry of Defense has simplified the process of medical equipment write-offs in units and implemented a medical information system in hospitals. The personnel are already working in this system, and by the end of the year, it will be implemented throughout the entire military.
“Through combined courses and a presidential decree, we had found a solution to the issue of medics being placed in non-medical positions," added the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
In addition, the Ministry has set up a Department for Psychological Support and has identified units for reintegration activities. In cooperation with the "Are you OK?" campaign led by First Lady Olena Zelenska, a rehabilitation center has been established on the returned land of one of the health resorts.
Among the plans for the future, Rustem Umerov mentioned the development of tactical medical training standards, the opening of a special laboratory for testing tourniquet quality, and the introduction of a modular model of prehospital care. In addition, as part of the Renovator project (NATO), the reconstruction of modern rehabilitation hospitals will be completed.
"Our objective is to provide optimal rehabilitation, depending on whether the person is returning to service or integrating into civilian life. These are our priorities. This is our task, and we will implement it quickly, as the life and health of each of our defenders depends on it," the Minister of Defence of Ukraine emphasized.
