IT Coalition to accelerate technology procurement and strengthen the digitalisation of Ukraine’s defence
The 11th meeting of the IT Coalition, an instrument providing targeted support for digitalisation and technology procurement projects for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, took place in Stockholm.
The participants reached an agreement on new approaches to speeding up technology procurement for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and on allocating further resources to the digitalisation of the defence sector.
During the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine briefed partners on the evolution of the army’s communications system, the integration of the DELTA combat system and its role in supporting ISTAR processes, as well as on the advantages of digital combat systems in commanding operations involving unmanned systems.
“Today, new military technologies are emerging and being tested for viability on the battlefield in Ukraine. It is crucial for us to increase funding for digital projects and to accelerate procurement processes to ensure that technologies reach the troops more quickly. We express our sincere gratitude to the leading nations and to Sweden for the organisation and active partnership,” said Oksana Ferchuk, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalisation.
Since its establishment in September 2023, the IT Coalition has mobilised more than €1.2 billion in support of enhancing the technological capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, partner nations have recently supplied Ukrainian military units with tactical-level telecommunications kits, as well as satellite and mobile communications systems from Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. The Ministry of Defence extends its particular gratitude to Germany for its substantial contribution to the development of radio communication systems and for its support of digital projects.
Thanks to the support of the IT Coalition, the Ministry of Defence is actively implementing ‘Impulse’, the first tactical-level system for managing military personnel records. The system automates personnel management processes, provides accurate and structured data on service members, and supports commanders in making decisions based on up-to-date information.
The IT Coalition is one of the Capability Coalitions within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format). The Coalition supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence in the domains of IT, communications, and cybersecurity. Current members of the Coalition include Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland, Sweden, Japan, and Ukraine, with Estonia and Luxembourg serving as lead nations.
