In the year 2024, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence secured the provision of women's garments valued at nearly UAH 160 million for the nation's female defenders
The Ministry of Defence is expanding the range of garments and protective gear available for female military personnel. The field suits and women's undergarments have already been purchased and are currently being distributed. Small-sized socks, gloves, and shoes for women are also in stock.
Furthermore, two reference samples of body armor designed for women have been approved, while the cold weather base layer underwear, demi-seasonal base layer underwear, and winter jacket and trousers are currently undergoing testing.
This was discussed at a working meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Defence and NGOs that support women in the military and address their needs, including clothing.
The attendees discussed the current state of equipping women in the military and the pressing issues that must be addressed immediately. Particular focus was placed on adapting military uniforms to the physical attributes of female personnel, as well as expanding the size range and elevating the standard of uniforms to ensure the highest level of comfort and functionality for female defenders.
“In total, the Ministry of Defence's acquisition agency, DOT, procured women's garments, including field suits and undergarments, for UAH 158.3 million during 2024. Women's garments must meet all the requirements and ensure comfort during service. Collaborating with non-governmental organizations enables us to quickly address requirements and enhance our processes for equipping women with essential supplies,” said Deputy Defence Minister Dmytro Klimenkov.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine expresses its gratitude to civil society organizations for their active involvement in improving the conditions of service for women in the military and reaffirms its commitment to further cooperation in this area.
