In October, Defense Ministry units cleared over 20 000 hectares of land

Throughout October 2024, demining units from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense cleared 20 342.78 hectares of land contaminated with explosive remnants from Russian armed aggression. The efforts yielded:

- Demining of 19 602.07 hectares of agricultural land

- Clearing of 90.55 km of roads

- Inspection and securing of 9.75 km of power lines

During this period, sappers detected and destroyed 8 206 explosive devices, bringing the total number of neutralized devices since the full-scale invasion to 411 225.

Each week, approximately 260 specialized demining teams, totaling over 1 100 personnel, worked in contaminated areas, supported by up to 15 mechanical demining vehicles. As of late October, there were 64 certified mine action operators, with eight new operators added during the month.

According to the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, demining operations involved specialized units from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, National Police explosive ordnance units, and pyrotechnic units from the State Emergency Service.

Per Ukraine's Law "On Mine Action in Ukraine," only certified mine action operators are authorized to conduct humanitarian demining activities.
