Government approves increase in Ministry of Defence spending by UAH 311 billion
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved amendments to the 2025 State Budget. According to the Government’s decision, the Ministry of Defence’s expenditures are to be increased by a total of UAH 311 billion.
According to Minister of Defence of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, these funds will be allocated to cover priority needs, including:
- procurement of weapons systems (including drones), ammunition, and military equipment;
- timely payment of service remuneration to military personnel;
- social support for the families of Ukraine’s defenders.
Accordingly, UAH 301.2 billion from the general fund will be allocated to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
An additional UAH 8.6 billion from the special fund dedicated to the Ministry of Defence will be directed to defense industry reform and development, as well as to the procurement of weapons systems, military equipment, and other materiel. Another UAH 1.4 billion will be allocated for logistics and sustainment support of military units.
“We have a clear understanding of the sources that will cover these expenditures,” emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
The main part of the additional spending will be covered by funds from the European Union under the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) initiative.
“We are adapting the budget to the realities of modern warfare. We are strengthening Ukraine’s defense capability, the potential of our defense industry, and its innovative component. We are fully committed to honoring all obligations to our service members and their families. We have reliable support from our partners, which enables us to remain strong and resilient,” concluded the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
