For the first time, the MoD’s DOT procures body armor sets with a positive-buoyancy module
For the first time, the State Operator for Non-Lethal Acquisition (DOT), the procurement agency of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, is procuring body armor sets incorporating a positive-buoyancy module. The base modular configuration includes a special module – a positive-buoyancy element – intended for use during waterborne operations.
The positive-buoyancy module was developed and approved by the Main Directorate for the Development of Logistics Support.
The special module allows the body armor to function as a flotation device when in contact with water, capable of keeping a service member afloat while wearing full gear, personal protective equipment, and carrying weapons and ammunition. This helps reduce risks to service members operating at sea or in terrain with water barriers.
Body armor equipped with a positive-buoyancy module is intended for use by the Navy and Special Operations units that carry out missions in coastal and aquatic environments.
When developing and procuring personal protective equipment, the top priority is the life of the service member. Hence, the positive-buoyancy module is regarded not as an option but as a necessity. This approach improves safety for missions in coastal or water environments.
