Deferments for those released from captivity are now extended automatically
Ukrainian citizens released from captivity only need to apply once at an Administrative Service Center (ASC) to obtain a mobilization deferment — after that, it will be automatically extended every 90 days.
At the same time, not all those released from captivity and their families are aware of this procedure. Due to a lack of information, misunderstandings and conflict situations can sometimes arise, which can be avoided through clear explanations.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reminds: effective November 1, 2025, the procedure for obtaining mobilization deferment was simplified. In line with amendments to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 560, the deferment application process has been significantly simplified — in most cases, repeat applications and additional visits to government agencies are no longer required, as a large number of deferments are now extended automatically.
The right to automatic extension applies, in particular, to:
- individuals deprived of liberty as a result of the armed aggression against Ukraine;
- service members released from captivity.
How the automatic extension works
Automatic extension takes place provided that the deferment validity period is correctly reflected in the registration records.
If a specific end date is set during processing (for example, March 30), the deferment expires on that date, and automatic extension does not apply.
If the records indicate a validity period corresponding to the mobilization period (displayed in the Reserve+ app as “until the end of mobilization”), deferment is renewed for an additional 90 days during each automatic extension cycle.
The automatic extension mechanism operates based on the recorded data. If an individual liable for military service sees that the deferment end date is incorrect and does not correspond to the validity period of its grounds, the information must be clarified. To do so, individuals should contact a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (enlistment office) or submit documents to apply for a new deferment at any convenient Administrative Service Center (ASC).
What to do if your deferment was not extended
If a deferment was supposed to be extended automatically but was not, this may indicate that the data in the state registers is missing or outdated. In such cases, the information must first be updated, after which an application for deferment should be submitted through an Administrative Service Center (ASC) with up-to-date documents.
Applicants may contact any convenient Administrative Service Center (ASC), regardless of their place of registration.
Proof of deferment
Currently, the primary proof of an active deferment is the electronic military registration document available in the Reserve+ app. Paper certificates with ink stamps are no longer issued.
If there is no access to a smartphone, the electronic military registration document may be generated and printed using the following options:
- Reserve+ app;
- Diia portal;
- by contacting a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (enlistment office), or an Administrative Service Center (ASC) if it concerns a document with a deferment mark.
