Boosting Armed Forces of Ukraine mobility: three times more motorcycles procured for the front than last year

Defence Procurement Agency DOT has signed contracts for the delivery of 1,500 motorcycles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a threefold increase over last year’s quantity. With six companies competing in the tender, transparent competition helped reduce the final contract value and save nearly UAH 12 million in state budget funds.
Mobility on the battlefield directly affects the speed of mission execution and helps save service members’ lives.
Acting on the President’s directive, we continue to scale up a modern defense procurement system. We are building it so that every procurement delivers results, and every hryvnia saved is reinvested to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The entire batch is expected to be delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as early as this year, while the savings generated will be used to procure additional equipment for the Defence Forces.
In this way, we are moving all procurement to a transparent, straightforward system with no room for opaque schemes. Tenders have demonstrated strong results, so we are gradually applying this approach to defense goods as well.
Motorcycles remain among the most in-demand vehicles on the battlefield, alongside pickup trucks. They provide Ukrainian service members with high mobility, speed, and operational flexibility, particularly in areas with challenging logistics or limited road access, and when operating in small groups.
Six bids submitted under a single procurement demonstrate that there is real competition in the market. For the state, this means being able to procure the required items on better terms and direct the resulting savings toward additional support for the Defence Forces of Ukraine. That is why we are working to attract more suppliers to the procurement process.
The same principle was applied to the largest procurement of long-range 155 mm artillery rounds, where competition among participants helped secure better terms for the state and further strengthen support for the military.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defence explained how Defence Procurement Agency DOT operates and helps improve the transparency of tender procedures, as well as how suppliers can supply weapons, equipment, drones, clothing and gear, and food products to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
