Army+ launches survey on foreign language skills in the military

A new survey on foreign language proficiency and experience using foreign languages during service has been launched in the Army+ app
The responses collected will help more effectively involve personnel with foreign language proficiency in joint tasks with foreign military personnel

A new survey has been launched in the Army+ app on foreign language proficiency and experience using foreign languages during service. The Ministry of Defence aims to assess foreign language proficiency among service members, how those skills are used during service, and service members’ readiness to serve alongside foreign military personnel.

The responses collected will help more effectively involve personnel with foreign language proficiency in joint tasks with foreign military personnel.

Key survey topics

The new survey in Army+ aims to comprehensively assess service members’ foreign language skills and covers several key topics:

  • foreign language proficiency across different skills (speaking, writing, listening, translation);
  • experience using foreign languages in a combat unit, at headquarters, or during training exercises;
  • readiness to serve alongside foreign military personnel.

Service members’ responses will also support the development of targeted language courses within the Army+ app.

Survey on foreign language skills in the military: participation period

The survey can be completed in the “Surveys” section of the Army+ app between May 15 and 28. The survey feature was among the first launched in the app, and its functionality is developed and maintained by the Center for Scaling Technological Solutions (CSTR) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Since the launch of Army+, twenty surveys have already been conducted, including on sharing combat experience, field ration satisfaction, and the quality of non-lethal logistics support.

Previously, the Army+ app also hosted a survey that collected feedback from service members about their experience during Basic General Military Training (BGMT).
