Evgeniy Khmara and U.S. senators discuss support for Ukraine and countering russian threats
Ukraine's Minister of Defence Evgeniy Khmara met with U.S. Senators Thom Tillis, John Curtis, and Alan Armstrong.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the battlefield situation, key threats posed by russia, Ukraine’s air defense needs, and support for the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
Support for the Defence Forces
Evgeniy Khmara thanked the United States for its critically important support for Ukraine, particularly for its assistance in supplying critical weapons through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and JUMPSTART mechanisms.
U.S. support helps save Ukrainian lives and strengthen the Defence Forces.
Evgeniy Khmara also briefed the senators in detail on the battlefield situation and threats from russia.
Countering threats posed by russia
The enemy is intensifying strikes on civilian targets, increasing its production of ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, while also attacking vessels carrying Ukrainian grain exports.
The Minister of Defence of Ukraine stressed that russia can only be stopped by force. To achieve this, it is important to continue supporting the Defence Forces and provide Ukraine with the capabilities needed to protect people and destroy russia’s military potential.
Ukraine’s needs and mutually beneficial cooperation
The Ukrainian side provided a specific list of needs for countering russian aggression, particularly in the area of air defense.
The participants also discussed how Ukraine’s experience can strengthen the United States and other allies. The Ukrainian side presented areas of cooperation and projects that could help partners be prepared for modern threats.
