Winter military kit: Omni-Heat jacket, anti-puncture insole boots, innovative sleeping bag
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is equipping the Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel with necessary winter gear in line with the standards approved by the Defense Ministry order on April 29, 2016, No. 232.
"We aim to provide our service members with modern, innovative clothing that meets the highest standards of comfort and efficiency. It’s essential that our defenders' winter clothing not only retains warmth but is also highly functional and comfortable, aiding them in performing tasks even in extreme weather conditions," stated Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense Dmytro Klimenkov.
The main winter clothing kit includes:
Winter windproof and water-resistant jacket and pants
High-top winter boots
Winter tube scarf
Winter gloves
Insulated jacket
Insulated gaiters
Cold-weather underwear
Winter hat
Winter trekking socks
What are the important characteristics of winter clothing for military personnel?
Winter windproof and water-resistant jacket and pants are essential for the winter period, providing comfort, warmth, and camouflage. There are two types. The first type includes insulation layers, with the jacket’s outer material featuring a micro-porous foam coating for added water and wind resistance. The second type utilizes fabric with a membrane coating and Omni-Heat technology, enhancing thermoregulation and heat retention.
High-top winter boots are crafted from high-quality materials, featuring a waterproof and breathable membrane for moisture protection, neoprene, and a foil insole for warmth retention, along with an anti-puncture insole. The boots are designed with extra protection for the toe and heel areas.
The winter tube scarf, gloves, and insulated jacket are made from soft, fleecy knitted fabric, which prevents hypothermia and provides comfort in low temperatures.
Insulated gaiters are worn over boots for added protection against snow, mud, and other environmental factors.
Cold-weather underwear is made from a fleecy knit fabric, which effectively retains warmth.
Additionally, service members receive a sleeping bag and a field insulating mat. A new model of sleeping bag is planned for distribution: an innovative set that includes an inner "cocoon" sleeping bag, an outer waterproof cover, and a compression sack (storage cover). It also includes a hygiene liner.
The sleeping bag design allows the liner to be placed inside the cocoon, with the waterproof cover outside. Functional elements enhance usability, including an internal pocket for personal items and a bottom zipper pocket to store the sleeping bag liner. Overall, the sleeping bag kit features advanced materials, offering complete environmental isolation and usability in various weather conditions and seasons.
