What payment is provided for a first fixed-term contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2026

Contract service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine represents a conscious choice and a viable alternative to mobilization under martial law. It is for those who want to defend the country while building a military career, serving in their field of expertise, and understanding their role and responsibilities.

Service under contract offers clearly defined conditions, stable service remuneration, social guarantees, and the opportunity to choose a position based on one’s training and experience.

In addition, service members signing a fixed-term contract for the first time are entitled to a one-time payment from the state.

In 2026, this payment amounts to:

  • UAH 26,624 (equivalent to 8 times the subsistence minimum for economically active individuals) for the rank-and-file personnel;
  • UAH 29,952 (equivalent to 9 times the subsistence minimum for economically active individuals) for non-commissioned officers;
  • UAH 33,280 (equivalent to 10 times the subsistence minimum for economically active individuals) for officers.

Who is eligible to enter into a contract

A contract for military service may be signed by a citizen of Ukraine, a foreign national, or a stateless person aged 18 or above. Citizens who have been mobilized and are currently serving in the military also have the right to sign a contract.
