Ukrainian Parliament increased defense spending by over UAH 495 billion
Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law on Amendments to the State Budget for 2024. It provides for an increase in spending on the Security and Defense Sector by UAH 495.3 billion.
The decision was supported by 298 MPs.
The allocation of funds will cover the entire Defense Forces, with a portion of UAH 373.7 billion going to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, representing 75.4% of the total.
According to Deputy Defence Minister Yuriy Dzhygyr, MoD plans to spend the largest share of its budget, UAH 274.4 billion (73.4%), on the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service.
“These funds will be utilized to pay service members' salaries and fulfill other necessary financial obligations for military personnel. The support shown by MPs for our Armed Forces is greatly appreciated, as it is a crucial decision for the country,” mentioned Yuriy Dzhygyr.
Funds totaling UAH 76.2 billion are allocated for weapons, military equipment, and ammunition. The plans include the modernization of aircraft, air defense and anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as the acquisition of ammunition, from small rounds to large-caliber shells.
Priority is given to domestic manufacturers to meet defense needs as quickly as possible.
Another UAH 15.2 billion will be allocated to upgrade the line of defense, particularly for establishing defense perimeters around certain settlements.
Of this amount, UAH 8.1 billion will be used for the construction of military engineering and fortification structures, and UAH 7.1 billion will be spent on equipment for the construction of these structures.
Besides that, UAH 7.9 billion will be allocated for the operating costs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
