Ukraine and EU discussed funding requirements for 2025–2026

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Sergiy Boyev, discussed funding for 2025–2026 with Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Gediminas Navickas.

“For Ukraine, early funding planning for the defence industry, along with weapons deliveries and other assistance, remains an important matter. To understand the volumes of weapons production achievable by early 2026, financing must be secured this year. At present, the required amount is $6 billion,” said Sergiy Boyev.

The parties also discussed funding allocation for the production of FPV drones, long-range strike systems, and drone interceptors. The needs for security assistance to Ukraine in 2026 were also assessed.

“Despite the international community’s aspiration to bring the war to an end and the pressure exerted by our partners on russia, the aggressor persists in terrorizing Ukraine and expands weapons production. Our task is to remain prepared and to strengthen partnerships with our allies,” explained Sergiy Boyev.

The Deputy Minister also discussed with Gediminas Navickas the next steps under the SAFE initiative, which is designed to support Ukraine’s full integration into Europe’s defence industry.

Specifically, the parties addressed the procedure for selecting the initiative’s member countries and determining which projects will receive funding. The EU representative reaffirmed Europe’s interest in providing sustained support to Ukraine and advancing joint defence initiatives.
