Ukraine will apply to certify professional military education courses in accordance with NATO standards
In October 2025, NATO experts will conduct an institutional audit of Ukraine's military education system. Afterward, Ukraine will be eligible to apply for the certification of professional military education courses in line with NATO standards.
“Ukraine will not only enhance the training quality of its military but also ensure the interoperability of its Armed Forces with those of the Alliance. This will create opportunities for military personnel from NATO member states to receive training in Ukraine,” explained Deputy Minister of Defence, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk, who oversees military-focused education and science within the ministry.
The development of a military education system aligned with NATO standards was recently discussed during a Defence and Security Committee meeting at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine was represented at the event by Volodymyr Mirnenko, the Head of the Department of Military Education and Science. He shared the achievements and plans for the transformation of military education being implemented under the NATO DEEP program.
The project supports the development and synchronization of over 200 educational programs, including those for NCOs and officers, in military planning, decision-making, and leadership.
Since the launch of the DEEP project, over 1,000 training sessions, internships, and other training and educational activities have been conducted in Ukraine. In 2024, the participation of Ukrainian service members in these activities rose by 450%, with over 15 000 participants in total.
