Ukraine engages in discussions with the Nordic-Baltic countries on plans for military and financial assistance for 2025
Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration, Sergiy Boyev, held a meeting with ambassadors and representatives of the Foreign Ministries of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Sweden.
The parties reviewed the outcomes of their cooperation over the past year and discussed priorities for supporting Ukraine in 2025.
Sergiy Boyev expressed gratitude to the allies for their support, provided an update on the operational situation at the front, outlined the details of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan, and highlighted priority needs critical for countering russian aggression in early 2025. He also emphasized that an invitation to join NATO remains a fundamental component of Ukraine's security guarantees.
“Comprehensive protection of Ukraine remains our primary objective. Beyond stabilizing the situation at the front, it is crucial to ensure clarity regarding the scope of aid for 2025. Strengthening air defense and missile defense, building reserves, and supporting the defense industry are the key priorities,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Sergiy Boyev
In addition, the parties discussed the potential to strengthen sanctions in the 16th package, which the EU is currently working on.
Participants also highlighted recent developments regarding the involvement of North Korea's military in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Baltic States, in particular, expressed concern about the growing cooperation between russia and North Korea.
The Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the countries participating in the EUMAM mission for their successful contributions to the training of Ukrainian military personnel and urged the consideration of further enhancements to the training formats.
Sergiy Boyev also expressed gratitude to the countries that have supported the Ukrainian defense industry through direct investments and proposed exploring new approaches for the mutually beneficial development of the defense sector. He briefed the partners on the capabilities of domestic manufacturers and emphasized the importance of broader cooperation with companies from partner countries.
