Ukraine and the Netherlands have agreed on the key priorities for defense cooperation in 2025
The Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, held a meeting with Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans. The key subjects discussed at the meeting were the military support program for 2025, the development of aviation capabilities, and deepening cooperation in defense technologies.
The primary focus of the discussions was the F-16 program. Ukraine is set to receive the next batch of aircraft in 2025, with ongoing training for Ukrainian pilots, engineers, and technicians.
“The Netherlands plays a key role in the Air Force Coalition, supporting the development of our aviation infrastructure and capabilities. It is essential to take swift and effective action in collaboration with our partners,” said Rustem Umerov.
Another crucial area of collaboration is unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). During the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement on the distribution of the previously announced €400 million for expanding drone capabilities, including the development and production of long-range systems.
Additionally, the supply of artillery ammunition, air defense systems, and interceptor missiles was addressed. The parties also deliberated on the development of joint defense enterprises, which would play a crucial role in strengthening the defense capabilities of both countries.
“The Netherlands fully comprehends our needs and stands ready to provide support. Grateful to Minister Brekelmans for productive negotiations and to the Dutch government and people for their unwavering support of Ukraine,” Rustem Umerov emphasized.
The Netherlands stands as one of Ukraine's key defense partners and has substantially increased its military support in 2024. The agreements reached will be a significant step toward bolstering the security of Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
