Ukraine and Sweden have agreed to sign a bilateral agreement on cooperation between companies in the defense sector
Deputy Minister of Defence for European Integration, Sergiy Boyev, held a meeting with Brigadier General Johan Axelsson, Director of the Testing and Evaluation Systems Department at Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
Sergiy Boyev emphasized that the regular visits of the Swedish delegations are a positive indication of the growing cooperation and partnership between the two countries. This time, the parties agreed to develop a bilateral agreement aimed at supporting the implementation of joint defense industry projects and discussed tangible proposals for their establishment, including a list of priority products to be produced.
“Undoubtedly, air defense and munitions remain at the forefront of Ukraine's priorities. A distinct necessity is the advancement of long-range capabilities,” noted the Deputy Minister of Defence.
Johan Axelsson, for his part, said that the Swedish government is expected to make a favorable decision soon regarding the allocation of a new military aid package to Ukraine, which will be the largest since the onset of russia's full-scale invasion. It is anticipated that, in addition to providing weapons, the package will include investments in Ukrainian defense manufacturing, particularly aimed at enhancing long-range capabilities.
Additionally, the Ukrainian and Swedish sides agreed on the specifics of implementing contracts for the production of armored vehicles, particularly Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles. Plans are in place to establish a partnership for the servicing and repair of these armored vehicles in Ukraine.
The negotiations also addressed the need to ensure reliable communication on the battlefield to carry out the planned operations of the Defence Forces. Sweden possesses satellite communication tools that have demonstrated effectiveness.
